International Health Conference

Global Health-focused students, faculty and providers of all health disciplines are invited to submit abstracts for presentation.

All Abstract presentations take place April 4 - 5, 2009.

Conference Theme:
Transcending Global Health Education: Education and Action
**Proposed session topics do not have to fall within the conference theme.

** STUDENTS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT ABSTRACTS FOR INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS

Individual Presentations
** Program producers are unable to accommodate proposals for pre-formed panels.
Individual presentations are 10 to 15 minutes long with 5 minutes for questions. Since the number of sessions is limited, we may combine thematically related individual presentations or ask authors to make their presentation in a different format.

Criteria for Abstract Selection
Depending on the type and theme of the topic under consideration, some or all of these criteria may apply.

Does or will the abstract:

  • Spark the interest of conference participants?
  • Deal with a topic that is significant and important to highlight?
  • Demonstrate logical design and methodological soundness?
  • Demonstrate creative application of principles and methods?
  • Present new information or highlight and reinforce existing knowledge?
  • Present conclusions that are logical and transferable to other public health domains, and/or can they be applied in a practical setting?
  • Communicate best current practices, expand tools for advocating for health, or build and strengthen global alliances aimed at major health issues?

Presentation descriptions will be included in the conference program and should be written:
• As a Single Paragraph
• In the Third Person
• 250 Words Maximum

Review and Notification Process

You will receive emailed confirmation of your abstract within 2 business days.

Your abstract will be submitted to a review committee.

You will be notified of your abstract's acceptance status by December 8, 2008.

Occasionally author(s) may be asked to make their presentation in another format, eg, poster or another type of session.

You are encouraged to submit a one paragraph bio-sketch outlining your background and contact information. This information may be included in the conference program.

Audio/visual equipment (i.e. screens, projectors) will be available for powerpoint slideshows.

Guidelines

All abstracts must be submitted in English. Total word count, excluding author names, affiliations and titles, must not exceed 250 words. Abstracts are only acceptable when submitted through the online form. Program producers request that the principal author serve as a designated presenter of the information at the conference.

Students are encouraged to submit an abstract. Student submissions should include a letter of support from a faculty mentor whose name is listed among the abstract’s authors. This letter need not be lengthy, but should include a statement by the faculty mentor about the type/amount of supervision the student's work is conducted under.
